Guidance for the students who wants to pursue
career in Biotechnology-
Biology
Scholarships
This department
provides Biology Scholarships to the top students in biology at the CBSE 10+2
level examination. Each scholarship
award is of Rs. 15,000/-, a
gold plated medal and a certificate of merit.
These awards are given at
the National Science Day function held on 28th February every year.
Every year 25 scholarships are awarded.
Selection of the 25 students is made from the merit list provided by
CBSE who are pursuing higher education in biology or related subjects
after 10+2.
Post-Graduate
Teaching programme
This programme aims at
creating trained human resource at the post-graduate level in general
biotechnology, agriculture biotechnology, medical biotechnology, marine
biotechnology, neurosciences, biochemical engineering and biotechnology.
The following are the ongoing post-graduate biotechnology teaching
courses:

27 M. Sc. Courses in General Biotechnology

7 M.
Sc. Courses in Agriculture Biotechnology
·
1 M.
Sc. Course in Medical Biotechnology
·
2 M.
Sc. Courses in Marine Biotechnology

Sc. (3 years) in Neurosciences.

6 M. Tech Courses in Biochemical
Engineering, Bio-process Technology
and Bio-technology.

2 One-year Post MD/MS Certificate courses
in Medical Biotechnology.

2 One-year PG diploma courses
in “ Molecular and Biochemical Technology” and “Genetic Engineering
and Bioprocess Development.
The intake of students
in the postgraduate courses is around 840 per year. Students are admitted to different universities through an
All India combined entrance examination, conducted by JNU, New Delhi and to IITs
through GATE in Two-year/4-semester M. Tech. courses and through JEE in
Five-year integrated M. Tech. Courses in Biochemical Engineering and

published 5 Model Syllabi for 2 years M. Sc. (General Biotechnology, Agriculture
Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology) and 2
years/4-semesters M. Tech. in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology for the
first time in the country.
Post-Doctoral
Fellowship Programme
DBT Post-doctoral
fellowship programme is being implemented
through Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore. The
selected fellows can opt to work in universities and R&D institutions of
their choice. Under this programme
Post Doctoral Fellowship of Rs. 11,000/- per PDF per month and contingency grant
of Rs. 50,000/- per PDF per annum is provided for the period of 2 year.
Selection is made by the expert committee constituted at Indian Institute
of Science, Bangalore. The
